DYLAN: General information

Language dynamics and management of diversity

Dynamik und Handhabung der Sprachenvielfalt

Dynamique des langues et gestion de la diversité

The DYLAN project seeks to identify the conditions under which Europe's linguistic diversity can be an asset rather than an obstacle for the development of knowledge and economy.

DYLAN is in an Integrated Project (Contract N° 028702) funded under Framework Programme 6 (FP6) of the European Union. The project embraces 20 research institutions in 12 European Countries and runs from 2006 to 2011.

Project organisation

The work that is carried out by the DYLAN research partners is organised around four research work packages (WPs) with two further WPs for training and management. The first three research WPs concentrate on the terrains ‘companies’, ‘EU institutions’, and ‘educational systems’, each broken into specific research tasks carried out by individual teams.

RT 4.2 is located in WP4 ‘transversal issues’, which is organised in a different way. Apart from our RT ‘emergent varieties’, it addresses ‘efficiency and fairness’ and ‘forms of multilingualism in European history’. Each transversal task is carried out by a different research team in an attempt to interact with and thereby connect all three terrains.
